Wedding Attended

Today, seeing a chimney sweep on your wedding day is still a lucky omen and many couples choose to have a sweep attend their wedding to shake the groom’s hand and to give a lucky kiss to the bride.

This lucky tradition is 200 years old and came about because a chimney Sweep saved the life of King George II by stopping the runaway horse and carriage in which the King was riding. As a result, the King issued a Royal Decree declaring that Chimney Sweeps were bringers of luck and should be treated with the greatest of respect. The King invited the sweep to his daughter’s wedding to bring luck and so having a Lucky Sweep attend a wedding became a national tradition.

If you, or a loved one, have a wedding planned, we would be delighted to come along on the special day in a traditional chimney sweep’s outfit to bring the happy couple good luck as they start their married life together.
